Jeff Kirby Receives Lifetime Membership Award

Jeff Kirby, Owner and Chairman of Puget Sound Security was recently honored by the Seattle Chapter of the FBI Seattle Citizens Academy with a Lifetime Membership Award.

In 2005, the Seattle office of the FBI began a program called the FBI Citizens Academy. This program is designed to identify select business leaders within the community and educate them in all aspects of FBI operations through an intensive 8 week course.

These individuals are then tasked with sharing the information learned and personally promoting public interest, awareness and sponsored programs with the community at large in the capacity of an emissary of the FBI.

Jeff completed the training in 2007 and has been a key part of the FBICAAA alumni, by meeting with other members at the Seattle FBI offices on a monthly basis.

Jeff has embraced his mission to provide training and awareness by using his endless energy to educate groups of individuals through circulation of child fingerprint ID kits, taking part in seminars that teach on-line computer predatory awareness and ID Theft. Since completing his own training, Jeff has chaired the ID Theft Committee and has tirelessly presented free of charge ID Theft Seminars to many locations and organizations such as high schools, HOA's, church groups, state organizations and power utility facilities

As the Chairman of the Education Agenda Committee for Lake Washington's School Districts’, Criminal Justice Classes, Jeff hosts sessions on an annual basis.

Since 2005, the Citizens Academy has processed in excess of 200 attendees. Jeff is one of only three to receive the "Lifetime Membership Award" in recognition of service and dedication above and beyond the call of volunteer duty.

Anderson Security Agency 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off

Anderson Security Agency, Ltd. in conjunction with the Arizona Private Security Professionals Association (APSPA), an organization that owner Kimberly Anderson – Matich founded, hosted a chili cook-off to benefit the Security Officer Memorial Fund (AzSOMF). The event was hosted at the American Legion Post 75 in Phoenix. The AzSOMF was established to assist the families of security officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. The event raised more than $1,500 and was attended by more than 300 chili lovers who were able to sample 13 different types of chili. Along with chili, participants enjoyed classic rock along with band tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. Kim Matich was the big winner this year as she took home the first place prize for her “Sergeant Major Chili” and for Best Booth.

APSPA was started in 2006 as a vision by Kim Matich to provide security professionals with networking opportunities focused to advance business and security practice. The organization comes together to address issues that relate to licensing, best practices and changes to security needs specifically in Arizona. Although Kim is still involved in APSPA, the organization is now managed by a Board of Directors and is financed by annual dues from the members.

In July, Anderson Security Agency is teaming up with the Phoenix Fire Department and BOMA of Greater Phoenix to sponsor a Fire Inspections & Life Safety Seminar for high-rise/mid-rise buildings. The seminar will provide valuable information for property managers, facility managers and building engineers that will:

  • Help develop an emergency preparedness plan
  • Introduce high rise inspections
  • Implement fire drills
  • Develop key contacts with the Phoenix Fire Department
  • Review master calendar concepts & requirements

10 Things Really Amazing Employees Do

The following article was written by Dr. William Cottringer, VP Employee Relations, Puget Sound Security. The article appears on the Washington State Unemployment Department's website.

  1. They enthusiastically learn all aspects of the business because they understand they are part of something bigger and more worthwhile than just their jobs.

  2. They treat the company as if it were theirs by serving as a steward of resources smartly.

  3. They generate viable opportunities by keeping their eyes and ears open and networking for ways more than pay for themselves.

  4. They improve systems proactively by resolving issues before they become issues and implement solutions to problems they see.

  5. They tell it like it is by not hiding bad news and telling people what’s necessary, especially when it is uncomfortable, before major damage is done.

  6. They demonstrate high standards by quietly driving their own high standards with little maintenance.

  7. They grow themselves and inspire others by role modeling to show them how to do this in advancing without animosity.

  8. They research, apply and refine as their consistent way for continuous improvement in adapting to change.

  9. They stimulate happiness by exuding and sharing positive energy in stressful times.

  10. They facilitate amazing bosses who become even more worthy of working with someone of such high caliber.

Pick 1-3 of these behaviors to champion in the people you mentor and manage.
